Widely Interactive started the way most good companies do — with two people who were genuinely good at what they did, who’d already proven it, and who knew exactly what they wanted to build next.
Jay and Ryan Belfore grew up with a shared obsession: computers, art, and design. Jay took his passion to the University of Arizona and into Arizona’s startup engineering scene. Ryan took his to the University of Michigan, earned his BFA in Graphic Design, then cut his teeth in the dot-com world in Columbus and San Francisco before landing in Scottsdale.
They began collaborating on digital projects in 2002 and eventually became partners in a Phoenix-based digital agency. The experience was formative. They learned the industry from the inside, built lasting client relationships, and saw exactly what a great agency should look like — and where most fall short.
In 2011, they sold their stake and founded Widely Interactive. The premise was simple: a software engineer and a creative director, equal partners, building and marketing websites the right way. No templates. No outsourced production. No work they couldn’t stand behind 100%. Every project would be custom-built for both search visibility and real business results.
Over two decades later, the business looks different than it did in 2011. The tools are faster, the strategies more sophisticated, and the team is larger. What hasn’t changed: every site is still fully custom, every client still gets direct access to senior people, and the work — from design and development through SEO and ongoing marketing — still has to be superlative before it goes out the door.
Jay Belfore is the CEO and Software Director of Widely Interactive. As Software Director, he oversees all web development projects in addition to being the lead developer when duty calls. In his career, Jay has engineered solutions for clients such as General Dynamics, Avnet, Realty Executives International, Insight and Cisco. Jay is a contributor for The Arizona Technology Council blog as well as the Scottsdale Airpark News. He is actively involved in the community and served for 10 years as a member and chairman of the board for The New Foundation, a behavioral health and substance abuse treatment center for adolescents. In his free time, Jay enjoys golfing, driving golf carts, thinking about golf… and spending time with his wife and children.
Ryan Belfore leads Widely Interactive’s creative department and sets the standard for what the agency’s work looks like. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from the University of Michigan and spent years in the dotcom startup world in Columbus and San Francisco before planting roots in Scottsdale.
In 2008, Ryan was named to BizAZ magazine’s Top 35 Entrepreneurs Under 35. He has co-founded two successful companies over his 20+ years in the Valley. At Widely, he oversees every design engagement — interactive, UI, web, and graphic — and believes that client relationships only work when communication is treated as seriously as the craft itself.
When he’s not deep in the latest AI tools, he’s mountain biking while listening to podcasts (…about AI), or reliving his youth with his two boys. Twelve out of ten clients recommend him.
Zack is the newest member of our team and he heads up business development for Widely. He spent the last 13 years working for major marketing agencies and has a wealth of knowledge and experience within the industry. He thrives on helping companies achieve accelerated growth through digital marketing tools. In his role at Widely, Zack will be forming new connections and partnerships with companies in the Southwest who would greatly benefit from the services we provide.
A native of San Diego, Zack grew up surfing, swimming and playing water polo. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Political Science from Arizona State University and has lived in Arizona for most of his professional career. Outside the office, he enjoys golfing, camping, cooking and learning new languages.
A native of Cuba, Ibis graduated top of her class from the Higher Institute of Design of Havana. After a few years of international experience, she moved to Arizona and began working at Widely Interactive.
Ibis takes a thoughtful approach to the creative process, mindful of high-level project objectives and drilling down to the essential details to make one-of-a-kind designs. She finds it very rewarding to reflect on the final designs she delivers, knowing all the work that went into creating them.
As a product designer, she is in charge of designing each screen or page with which the user interacts and ensuring that the product logically flows from one step to the next, guaranteeing the best user experience. She is responsible for creating a cohesive style guide and ensuring a consistent design language is applied across the product.
Passionate about typography and logo design she has created many great logos during her career and in 2020 she designed her first typeface.
Ibis enjoys traveling and visiting art museums and design expositions around the country along with her designer husband. As a proper island native, she loves playing sand volleyball and planning her next trip to the beach.
Her name is pronounced (e-bis).
Phil brings a wealth of experience to the table having worked in the industry for over a decade on major projects for companies such as TD Ameritrade and Kewit Construction. He has extensive expertise in WordPress development, front-end development, and animation. Phil is passionate about solving inefficiencies and complex problems by building solutions that perform. When he’s not at his computer, Phil enjoys having a balanced work-life schedule and tackling other complicated challenges like parenting.
